The Golden Globe Awards starts tonight at 8PM ET. They are a major Hollywood awards show which leads up to the Oscars and gives us a clue to who will be the front runners at the Oscar awards. The top accolade is for the best film drama and the contenders for this year are ‘The Social Network’ and ‘The King’s Speech’.
‘The King’s Speech’ ha s the most nominations at this year’s event with 7, shortly followed by the Facebook film ‘The Social Network’ which has six. Other films which hope to take away some awards are the boxing film starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, ‘The Fighter’, the ballet picture, ‘The Black Swan’ and Leonardo Di Caprio’s thriller ‘Inception’.
Best male actor is tipped to be won by the bookies’ favourite Colin Firth who produced a sensational performance as King George VI in ‘The King’s Speech’. ‘The Social Network’s’ Jesse Eisenberg, is Firth’s main competition in our opinion for his portrayal as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The other nominees include James Franco in Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’, Mark Wahlberg in ‘The Fighter,’ and Ryan Gosling opposite Michelle Williams in ‘Blue Valentine.’
The hot favourites for best female actress are as follows: Nicole Kidman in the emotional drama ‘The Rabbit Hole’, Michelle Williams in the relationship drama ‘Blue Valentine’. Natalie Portman portraying a ballerina in ‘The Black Swan,’ and Halle Berry in ‘Frankie and Alice.’
